A Short History of Knock
Knock is a small town located in Western Ireland in County Mayo. Today it is recognized as an international place of pilgrimage and a prayer site for all denominations.
On 21 August 1879 the Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, and St. John the Evangelist appeared on the south gable of Knock parish church. This sitting has been acknowledged world-wide. In 1979 Knock was visited by Pope John Paul II, to commemorate the centenary of the apparition. Mother Teresa of Calcutta visited the Shrine in June of 1993.
